New Year, New Blog!

2010 has already brought exciting changes to my life and to Billups Art. Because many of our friends and family are far away and because even the most "in-the-know" East Nashville locals never know what might be happening and also because most of what happens is very entertaining, Andrea is going to help me start (and maintain) a blog.

"The Building"
As you may know, I have been working with David Knoble to run the building at 1008c Woodland (yes, the building behind the old Alley Cat) as a rental venue/art gallery. This was a dream come true but managing a venue, planning gallery events and making a living as an artist was quite a challenge! Fortunately, a former Cumberland Baseball teammate, Clint Perry, has partnered with me to enhance Billups Art to now include artist studio spaces and to become a premier art and music venue. We are just finishing a build-out of 6 artist studios, an office space and several other improvements.

Check out a few photos of what we have so far...

Mack and Stamper have done a great job helping us with this project and at this rate we should have artists moved in by next week!

If you are in the neighborhood please stop in and see our progress and let me know if you are interested in one of our studios. Please leave us some feedback on what you think of the blog and the renovation.

  1. Looks great Anthony -- shows quite a lot of initiative. I hope it proves successful for you. I know how hard it is to make a living as an artist. I taught art for many years - alternated that with advertising design. Fed up with both -- not sure what to do next, but the mortgage is shouting "Find Out Quick!" My wife and I plan to vist my sister Carol in a few weeks. We will try to stop by.
